As well as finding out about the different types of legislation that applies to the construction industry, you will also learn and understand the importance of regular risk assessments in the workplace. In addition, the course will teach you how to identify, monitor and control hazards often associated with the building and civil engineering sectors. By the end of the course, you will be able to apply health, safety, welfare and environmental policies and procedures on a construction site.
During the course, you will be required to conduct a variety of exercises and at the end you will sit an exam comprising of 25 questions; 18 of which are multiple choice and seven written questions. To pass you will need to attend for the full five days of the course and achieve a minimum pass rate of 81%. Your SMSTS Certificate is valid for five years, therefore, it is highly recommended that at after three to four years, you attend an SMSTS Refresher course to attain a further five years of certification.
